Job description
Job responsibilities
Supervision of the nursing staff (RGN/RMN) within the Lodge whilst working as part of the care team, delivering the highest standards of individual care to residents. Always ensure that residents are treated with dignity and that individuals rights to independence and choice are met.
To provide the highest level of personal care (assisting to the toilet, assistance with bathing, dressing, oral/dental hygiene, eye care etc) and attention to residents, following individual care plans carefully and ensuring that all contact is polite, friendly, warm and supportive.
Understand and comply with requirements such as Health and Safety, SOVA, Fire Safety, COSHH, Infection Control, Food Hygiene and all aspects of the Health and Social Care Act, to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
To care for residents who may be temporarily sick or needs nursing procedures. To assist in the administration of medication where required in accordance with policies and procedures.
To assist with End of Life Care for residents who are terminally ill.
To participate in the formulation and maintenance of individual care plans for each resident and accurately maintaining and reviewing appropriate records.
To assist with organising social activities when required, and to participate in them to help promote residents physical and mental wellbeing. To accompany residents on community visits where required.
Liaise with other healthcare professionals relating to the care plans for each resident and accurately maintaining and reviewing appropriate records.
Be alert to residents physical and mental well-being, immediately reporting any changes in a residents condition to the Deputy/Manager and to accurately maintain and update residents records as required.
Respect and maintain confidentiality of residents personal information at all times, this includes residents behaviour and actions and any incidents that may occur in the course of day to day care, always being mindful of the GDPR Data Protection.
Be understanding and patient towards residents and their needs. Encourage, assist and support residents to participate in leisure activities and meaningful activities appropriate to the individual need, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met.
Overseeing the efficient running of the service of meals and drinks at meal times and other times ensuring that staff, when presenting meals and refreshments, do so in an appealing way, always being polite and courteous throughout. To ensure that staff are understanding with residents who need assistance and support, ensuring a good dining experience is maintained at all times.
Monitor and control residents nutritional and dietary requirements.
Assist nursing staff in the administration, control and storage of drugs and medicines ensuring all strict practices are maintained. Daily monitor and record drug refrigerator and treatment room temperatures and report to the Deputy/Manager accordingly. Complete weekly and monthly medication audits.
To issue instructions to, and monitor the performance of nursing staff, ensuring that all tasks are satisfactorily completed. Conduct Supervisions and appraisals of nursing staff.
To manage staff rotas and ensure staff are deployed effectively within the lodge
Answer nurse alarm calls promptly and appropriately.
To be the On Call point of contact only in the circumstances that the manager or deputy manager is unavailable.
To read and write reports when required, and to participate in staff and residents meetings as appropriate.
To attend mandatory training sessions, staff and residents meetings as required.
To undertake any additional duties as necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Are currently registered with NMC for appropriate client group (valid PIN number)
- Have experience in medication administration, wound care, infection control and pressure area care
Desirable
- Have relevant care home experience
